Marvin Dale, a 32-year-old truck driver from Yuma, Arizona, disappeared along Route 60 near the small town of Wenden during a winter delivery run in February 2004. His rig was found abandoned at a roadside rest area, engine off, doors locked, and the keys still in the ignition.
Marvin had been transporting building materials from Phoenix to Blythe. His last known communication was a short CB radio transmission at 11:12 PM where he mentioned seeing “something weird” just ahead. Dispatch was unable to raise him again.
When police arrived the next morning, Marvin’s truck was untouched. There were no signs of a struggle, accident, or mechanical failure. The cargo was intact. His cell phone, wallet, and logbook were inside the cab. The seat was still warm when officers first arrived, indicating he had only recently stepped away.
Search teams scoured the nearby desert for days. Footprints led about 200 yards into the scrubland before abruptly ending. No other physical traces were ever recovered.
Marvin’s disappearance left his family and coworkers shaken. He had no history of mental illness or drug use, and was considered responsible and punctual. Truckers who knew him said he was cautious and disliked stopping in unfamiliar places after dark.
A handful of other truckers have since reported seeing strange lights or experiencing radio interference in the same stretch of Route 60, though none have gone missing. Theories have ranged from foul play to desert cults to unexplained phenomena.
Marvin’s case remains unsolved and open. Despite several follow-up investigations, no leads have surfaced in over two decades. His rig was eventually returned to his family. The rest area where it was found is still operational, though often avoided by long-haul drivers.
As of 2023, no credible sightings or evidence have emerged. Marvin Dale is still listed as a missing person by Arizona state authorities.
